Oddly satisfying short adventure game

Samorost 1 is a free bizarre adventure game that brings you on a quest to stop a moss-filled, trunk-like planet from colliding with your planet. Just like Amanita Design’s other game installments, this game has a photo-realistic but otherworldly, low-resolution graphic design. This kind of makes sense since they only used Flash to build the game.

The game is followed by two more sequels with equally simplistic titles: Samorost 2 and Samorost 3. All installments were created with a peculiar design and gameplay. If you have about an hour of boredom to waste, check out this comically short game.

Travel through … space?

Samorost 1 immediately shows you a weird-looking rock, floating in what seems to be space. The game begins after you interact with the screen, either by clicking or touching. After that, you’re welcomed by one puzzle after another. Every area you accomplish brings you closer to the goal of the game, which is to save your planet. In all honesty, however, the gameplay might make you forget the goal.

You see, unlike other usual adventure games, this one doesn’t require you to be rational. Instead, this point-and-click subgenre has stages that will require you to wonder, “what does this button do?” This curiosity-based gameplay is matched by unconventional oddities like a gnome-like main character wearing pajamas and animals with human faces. To set a more amusing mood, the developers used funny sound effects, nature sounds, and noise.

The game is really short, and you can finish the stages by just spamming the screen with random clicks. Luckily, the entire Samorost franchise is free.
